Handle: Nickel
From: Kansas City MO
My Vanning interest began when I was a youngster reading the Magazines and drawing pictures of my van. In 1975 my parents bought a new Dodge van that would eventually become my first van. When I was 15 I did my first interior job on the van and in 1980 the van became mine. I worked at a local gas station and met a few Vanners that were customers.
I finally attended my first Truck-In in June of 1981. Dead Sheep Hunt III in Gretna NE. I met several members of Three Trails Vans at that event and caravanned home with them; by December of 1981 I became a member. I have served as President and Vice-President several times. We belong to Heart of America Van Council, which I have also served as Vice-Chairmen and Secretary.
I have owned several vans over the years. 1975 Dodge (Nickelodeon), 1993 Dodge (Prairie Schooner) and 2 1977 Dodges 1965 Ford (Imagination) and several other Early Fords 1969 Chevy and 2 Astro vans Currently I have a 2001 Ford (Paddy Wagon) and a 1964 Ford (Grand Illusion).
I have helped host many events over the years, Three Trails hosts Shootout in July and our Christmas Party in December every year. I also help with HOAVCs Havoc and Hy Rollins Van-Pire-Te in October. I was involved with the Council of Councils in Kansas City in 1994.
I attended my First Nationals in 1985 and have made it to 16 more up to 2007. I helped in hosting 3 of them, 1998, 2001 and 2003. I met my wife while Vanning in 1997, she is a member of Hy-Rollin Vans from Northern IL. I lived in IL from 1998 until 2002, while there I had the pleasure to work with Howard Furtak at Great Lakes for 2 years, it was great swapping vanning stories and finding out that we both have the same passion for vanning and its survival.
My wife and I enjoy attending events all over the U.S. and Canada and have made many best friends all over world. Vanners are the best they have put me up in their homes, worked on my vans and will always lend a hand to one another when in need.
Keep On Vanning
